Coinciding with the birth of the legendary sportswear brand’s iconic Trefoil logo, 1972′s SL 72 represented a unique departure from the sporting silhouettes typically crafted by adidas; meant not for running or training, the footwear was specifically intended to be worn away from the track, court, and field and was aptly introduced on home soil as a “podium shoe” for the 1972 Summer Olympic Games in Munich. Paying homage to that design – and its OG colorway – is the upcoming “SL 72″ edition of the SL Loop Runner. Unlike the bold colorways and patterns brought forth by the in-line versions of the new silhouette, the “SL 72″ edition adopts a decidedly retro feel, pairing beautifully blue mesh, leather, and suede with gold foil text, white Three Stripes branding, and a dash of red. Limited to just 200 pairs worldwide, the SL Loop Runner “SL 72″ will soon be available at select adidas Originals retailers.
